WHAT IS THE YOUNGEST AGE YOU TEACH? DO YOU TEACH ADULTS, TOO — OR ONLY BEGINNERS?   The youngest age we teach is 4 1/2*. Students must be able to recognize numbers 1-5 and the letters A-G. We have materials specific to young children and our teachers are trained to make this enjoyable even for young children. We teach experienced as well as beginning students and Yes, we also teach adults even into their 70’s! *(Note:The Baltimore County office will be piloting a Pre-school program for 3-4 yr. olds beginning in September, 2008. Call for details).
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES? CAN I JUST PAY THE TEACHER?   We bill monthly. Our current rates vary by location, but all of our locations offer discounts for additional students in the same home. Our teachers simply give the lessons. You will receive a monthly invoice from our business office with a stamped, addressed envelope to mail back for your convenience.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR LESSONS IN MY HOME?   The easiest way to register for lessons is to visit our website at www.playtimepiano.com , click on “REGISTER ONLINE” and follow the directions. Be sure to read over our policies and print them out to keep for your future reference. We will then contact you within 2-3 business days.
IS THERE A REGISTRATION FEE? HOW MUCH IS IT? AND WHAT IS IT FOR?   Yes, each location sets its own registration fees. The registration fee covers the cost of setting up your family for lessons and defrays the cost of recruiting your instructor. Our registration fee covers your family for a lifetime and allows other family members to begin their piano study at a later time or for a current student to return to study after a break of any length of time - even years!
WHAT IF WE DON’T OWN AN INSTRUMENT? DO YOU TEACH ON KEYBOARDS, TOO? WHAT SHOULD I BUY?   We teach many students on keyboards and recommend a keyboard so that you can minimize your investment until you see the level of interest in your students. We ask that you buy one with at least 25 black (full sized) keys along with an adapter (to save on batteries).
ONCE WE REGISTER, ARE WE LOCKED INTO A LONG TERM COMMITMENT WITH PLAYTIME?   NO. We understand that enrolling students for lessons is on a “wait and see” basis. We will do everything in our power to keep them interested, but we only ask for a 2 week notice should the student(s) in your home wish to discontinue their study with us.
ARE THERE RECITALS? IS IT MANDATORY THAT MY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A RECITAL? IS THERE A CHARGE FOR RECITALS?   Yes, Playtime hosts recitals each Spring. You choose the date that works best for your family. We feel that recitals should build both self-esteem and stage presence for future events in our students’ lives. Our recitals are not a competition, but rather a celebration of what our students have accomplished. There is never a charge for our recitals and you can bring as many guests as you would like. Refreshments are provided and these are very fun and festive events for all.
I’VE HEARD THAT LEARNING PIANO IS SUPPOSED TO BE “GOOD” FOR YOU. IS THIS TRUE?   Learning piano has been proven to be the best activity for enhancing brain development AT ANY AGE! Studying music, and specifically piano, is one of the only known ways of connecting both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, encouraging holistic thinking. Throughout history, many of our greatest leaders and thinkers have also been musicians.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS SAFE TO ALLOW ONE OF YOUR INSTRUCTORS IN MY HOME?   Playtime Instructors are not only reference checked and required to prove knowledge of music theory, but are all Criminally Background Checked before being allowed to teach for us.
AM I REQUIRED TO BUY MUSIC LESSON BOOKS OR OTHER MUSIC RELATED MATERIALS?   Yes, you do buy the lesson books and other materials from us, but you do not have to shop for them. We select the books that we feel will suit your student(s) best based on their learning style as indexed in our Registration Survey Sheets (on www.playtimepiano.com).
BESIDES THE CONVENIENCE OF IN-HOME LESSONS, WHAT MAKES PLAYTIME BETTER THAN OTHER PIANO TEACHING METHODS?   We find out how your student learns best, allow our students to play songs they really want to learn and encourage original composition. Our teachers love teaching and this is a fun
program that teaches note reading early on.
